Popgun Cometh!

Hey everyone, I'm writing here to let you know that I've got a 15 page story (in full color!?) called "Gamma Rae" coming out this November 21st in a swell Image Comics Anthology! Gamma Rae is a mercinary working for the Lunar Government, killing the monsters that have invaded earth so that the refugees living on the moon can return to their old homes. Also, she's 8 years-old and super tough! It's a blast of a story and can only be found in this anthology, plus I've been asked to return to the second anthology with a second Gamma Rae story! The anthology is called the PopGun Anthology and it's around 560 pages for about 30 dollars. Make sure you preorder it on Amazon and you can save about 10 dollars:

Pre-order me here at AMAZON!

It's doing very well in sales, and it's the strongest anthology in preorders so far at Image. We've all put a lot of work into it and it's something we're very proud of on all levels. If you have a blog make sure you give it a mention and help to spread the word about it. Also get your local comic book store to order it as well as recommending it to friends.

Best,
Derek

Here are some PopGun press and previews as well:
IGN gives us props!
Comicbook Resources knows what's up!
Newsarama can't get enough Popgun!
Not wanting to upset the mighty Carl Cthulu, I oblige his request for me to divulge interesting factoids about me...though there are few.

RULES: Each player of this game starts off with 10 weird things/habits/little known facts about yourself. People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 10 weird habits/things/little known facts as well as state this rule clearly. At the end you need to choose 10 people to be tagged and list their names. No tag backs. So now, I too shall play along, I only hope that there are 10 things about me worth listing.

1. This is hard to explain, but a weird habit I have: Whenever I am doing something that takes a fair ammount of time (driving somewhere, waiting for a player to connect in online Tetris, hurried peeing, etc.) I try to guess how long it will take and count down from that number. Like, sometimes I'll start counting down from 10,000 in a car ride to Salt Lake. I don't do this much when other people are around.

2. I sang and played guitar in a band that was dubbed, "Most Worthless Band in Existence" by Rolling Stone.

3. I speak Japanese.

4. Rachel and I currently sleep in the bed in which I was conceived...yeah.

5. Minus the programming, I can make a Game Boy Advance game all by myself. I was the sole artist/animator at work for a Game Boy Advance game that had to be made in 3 weeks. It was shit. (Peter Pan: The Movie)

6. I have failed college Algebra 4 times. Yikes.

7. I was punched in the face at least once every year I was in High School.
Freshman Year- I got puched in the face by some Korean gang member guy for making fun of how bad he was
in Science.
Sophomore Year- Got punched in the face during Spanish class by a linebacker for telling him he was, "the
stupidest piece of shit on the football team." After he punched me, I told him I knew why
our football team sucked, he punched like a girl.
Junior Year- I was admiring some dudes motorcycle with his friends and he decided we should be punched in
the face...from behind. He tried to beat up my friend Andrew, but I intervened. Getting
punched in the temple really hurts for hella days.
Senior Year- At blockbuster, a shrunken-nutted 'roid fiend punched me in the face when he thought my
saying to the clerk, "Stop flirting with those girls and you may be able to ring the rest
of us up a little quicker" was refering to him. When confronted, I thought he was
kidding, so I said, "Of COURSE I was talking to you!" Bamm-o! Punched in the back of the
head! After saying the only place he coulda punched me that would hurt LESS was the ass,
he threatened to kill me in the Parking lot.

8. I once dated a former "crack whore"...for lack of a more tactful way of saying "Someone who had sex for drugs."

9. Did I mention I'm a practicing Mormon?

10. And lastly, for a guy who grew up with 6 older sisters, you'd think I woulda been better with the ladies in High School, I didn't kiss a girltil' I was 18.

I tag: Christafa, allstarkrew, lanbridge

My wifes friends boyfriend is in a psychobilly band and asked me to design their CD cover for them, so last night I threw this together really quick and I am oddly pleased with how well it turned out, considering how little time I actually spent on it. I wish I had spent a bit more time on the sky, adding a darker cloud area or something, but oh well, cheers for me!

In addition to that, I just finished up page 16 to my next project, entitled "Manny Golden is: Grounded in Space". Hopefully I'll have some pictures, or some sort of preview up in the next month. Of course, it may be too early for that all together.

Also, I believe my house is cursed. Well, actually it is my parents house, but I feel it is cursed nonetheless, as there are way too many Black Widows running around to be otherwise. Luckily I've only found 3 or 4 inside, but don't tell Rachel, she'll freak out. Oh, and before you start making fun of me for making my wife live with my parents...they live in Sweden, and we are house sitting.

Drawing, Drawing, Drawing.

Yes, in case you can't tell by the title of this stupid "blog", I have been doing my fare shair of drawing. But I shouldn't be so quick to forget that I have been busting my ass on writing as well. Yes, I have been a busy boy. I have finished the script to my next project, of which I am fleshing out details with the good folks at SLG, and have already drawn the first 3 pages. Oh, and I drew a "mock cover" that I wish I hadn't been so quick to send to SLG as I now feel it is a less than worthy representation of the ass rocking nature of this all-ages romp. This book is gonna be really fun, and clocking in at 125 pages, I am trying to fit as much fun, adventure, and charm as humanly possible. I am also doing a lot of stuff I am not accustomed to in my art, namely...tech. Or, tech of sorts, for all of you manga tech-geeks out there who would blast me for using such a sacred and probably sacreligious comparison.

But all comic nerdery aside, last night was the single most shitty party ever attended by Rachel and myself. A customer at Rachels coffee shop invited us, along with a couple of her colleagues, over to his house for a party. Little did we know that this asshole figured, since he was served coffee by this lovely bunch on a daily basis, that they wouldn't mind doing the same at his party. He failed to tell us any of this, and invited us over an hour early, to a party we thought was DOA. As George started making calls, telling people that the party was in an hour, and that it was almost ready, "his people were on it", we realised that we were, in fact, only invited to get the BBQ ready, hang up the decorations, and mix drinks. To this sort of ass-headedness, there is only one proper course of action...taking 2 sixers of Corona Extra, a bottle of wine, vodka and gin while he was in the shower. Eat it, George.

A disclaimer: these are obviously not proper definitions of these words, I am too lazy to look up the proper definitions...I'm not gonna go through all that trouble for shit you all should already know...

There- denotes a place of action
Their- Shows a Base 4 (?) possession
They're- Is an abbreviation for "they are" (see the apostrophe?)

Too- Is a way of addressing an abundance of something (too many pickles)
To- Shows a direction of focus

Where- A word that begins a question asking to the location of an event/location/etc.
We're- An abbreviation of "we are"
were- past tense of the verb "are".

There are so many more rudimentary, 3rd grade english lessons I could give today, but these are the ones the internet fucks seem to need the most. You learned this in 3rd grade, people.

P.S. also, upon using spell check, which could be wrong of course, I only misspelled 1 word..."apPostrophy"

P.P.S.
...sometimes men get beat by their wives, right? Right? It's not always the other way around, is it?
This morning at 3 AM I was awakened by a pummeling. Rachel was wailing on my back and it took me a good 30 seconds to wake her up. Not that it hurt, but it was weird...anyone else experience this kind of shit? Apparently in her dream, she was fighting zombies. I've been awake since 3...sigh.

SDCC 05...man I don't want to recap the whole thing.

Hello, all...here is my recap of SDCC 05, and an update on the site shortly, if you're lucky.
We (Myself, Rachel, Elias, Michelle) started our treck to SD by pilling into the Impala and braving I-15 south from little Mapleton, Ut. It wasn't a bad trip down because there were 4 drivers and we got to split it up into 2 days. We drove down to Vegas and stayed at Rachels sisters house and got up the next morning, refreshed and went to San Diego.

Wed.
Once we got there, we found out our reservation for the hotel had been "given away", but luckily I'm such a nice gentleman that the concierge found somewhere for us. We took a walk down the boardwalk, making our way to the convention center, all the while getting too much sun and some nice ocean air. Basically we just walked and walked and walked, once we got near the con center, we decided to just register and get it over with, after 2 hours in line, I find out I should have gotten an exhibitor badge and if I had been in that line, would only have had to wait for 20 min or so. GAH! That night was preview night, basically I should have stayed at my booth and pimped my shit, but I was under the impression that preview night was sort of just a "look but no touch" thing...I was wrong, oh well. We went home right afterwards and crashed anyway.

Thurs.
The first day of the con! I love conventions, but knew I wouldn't feel the same way by Sundaus end. I got to the booth around 10:30 and set up shop, I was again seated next to the lovely and talented Feinberg/Meister (or Meister/Feinberg) duo for the weekend, it is always good to sit next to them. I met a lot of cool people and was pretty much busy either talking to fans or trying to recruit new fans the entire time I was at the booth, I think it was even on Thursday that I was fortunate enough to have a couple of fans bring me some cool home made Pirate goods, including a treasure chest, a scrfoll with the rules written on it, a flag, some booty, and of course, good conversation. I am so glad the people who read my book seem to be rabidly enjoying it. The Pirate Chest now sits above my art desk and holds the money I make off of the book. Money that will be used to make more shirts etc. Thusday was also the day we went out to dinner with some guys I met at 24 hour comics in SLC, I believe. We went to a Thai restaurant and feasted on Summer rolls...mmmm. After that, we enjoyed our 20 min walk back to the hotel with Elias and Michelle...it is far too infrequent that we hang out with them for extended periods of time.

Fri.
Man, I have a hard time telling what is what. I think this is the day that I went to the Bruce Campbell panel and laughed my ass off. I gotta buy his new book! Also today I was bombarded by questions about the eatpoo.com drawing session that would be going on. I have no idea about these things usually, and got pretty annoyed with all the questions and loitering. Really it was just one person doing the loitering and annoying...you know who you are. (Ed). But it's cool, I enjoy meeting people, and it was great for Rachel to finally meet all of these people I always speak so fondly of. Friday night was the big draw jam at the Marriott, it was filled with drunken assholes and artists...maybe they were all drunken asshole artists. I got to hang out with some of my buds, especially Mike May, who I used to draw with weekly when he was in UT...he is always a good chum to chat with. Also a bunch of dudes hit on Rachel and boosted her "I'm hot" ego. Bryan and Eleanor came from a post SLG party to chill with us too, that was fun. I got a lot of good drawings and did a bunch of decent ones too, surprise.

Sat.
I don't even know anymore...the days run together. All I know is that from the time I got to the booth, until I left, I was bombarded by people...it was a great feeling! I seriously didn't even have a moment to rest. Once the day was done, I invited myself and Rachel to the SLG party. I don't think I would have been allowed clearance had Rachel not been there, but most of the office folks seem to like herso I was "in". We went to the Hilton and hung out on the patio eating good food and enjoying free drinks and conversation. I finally got to talk (really talk) with Serena, who I have always just adored, but never really had a chance to chat with. Also there is that Joe Nakamura and Chris Haskett duo of joy. I actually tried to talk a little to everyone, cause it was such a good atmosphere, I needed to mozy around and check it all out. Once Rachel started giving Bryan and Joe piggy back rides, I knew it was time to split, so we (me, Rachel, Bryan, Joe, Eleanor, Vince) headed to the Hyatt upon a friends request, to hit up the Image "party". Aside from hangin with Ryan and COry (who seemed pissed for whatever reason) the party was lame, and everyone but me hit the bar on the 40th. I should have, cause basically it was lame otherwise. I think Joe tried to make out with me that night...I'll have to tell his GF. If I remember correctly, Rachel kissed someone that wasn't me...dang, I dunno. Probably Joe, that horny bastard. Basically it all boils down to the advice Roman gave me. "Don't go to the Hyatt...it is dumb and crowded" You were right, Roman...you were right. But you weren't right about my wife being crazy...she's cute.

Sun.
Bah...the day was basically over when it started. I sold a bit of merch, but it was a slow trickle. I did sell out of the Issues 1 and 2 SLG brought, so I felt good. A deaf kid tried to steal issue 2. YOU try confronting a deaf thief...not easy. Not easy. I got my issue 2 back. Sunday night was spent hangin out with Elias and Michelle, we went to old town and got some mexican and Rae got quite drunk off of Tequilla. The waiter had a crush on her so any time she ordered a shot, he brought a double "you have very beautiful eyes." We walked around old town hoping to find churros, but found none. We went back to the hotel and got in the hot tub, took a dip in the pool, watched Chappelles show, then anchorman before passing out. Good weekend.

Mon.
We packed our things and got the hell out of dodge, listening to Common Rider and Desa through the desert. Our car overheated a couple of times and we didn't get home til LATE. Luckily with the overheating, Rae had a chance to gamble for the first time. She really liked video poker, and wouldn't have minded to try her luck at roullette, but the tables were closed. Damn. We got back on the road and had to blast the heater through NV to keep our engine somewhat cool and finally, once we reached UT, all was good. Man, that is enough typing. If I left out some details...sorry.

I had a blast, loved meeting every one of you and can't wait til next year, folks! Until then, see yas!

I don't usually post here cause, I don't usually have much to say, but man, this is fucked...This morning I got word that my good friend, Daichi Mizuta died of Pancreatic Cancer. When I was living in Japan, he was my roomate for 6 months, and since he didn't speak english, he really helped me learn the language, get used to the culture (the reality of LIVING in Japan is hard...I know, hard to imagine), and helped me grow as a person. I hope he knew how much I appreciated his help and friendship, because man, I was a sarcastic, hyper, rough-housing, mother fucker...something the Japanese don't quite "get". I really learned a lot from him, and although I haven't talked to him in a few years now, he was my brother and I'll miss him.

24 Hour Comic! I did it...did I do it well? Pfft.

It is done...I scanned the pages and put it on the site. Am I proud of it? I dunno about THAT, but I am extremely pleased that I finished what I set to do. Not my best work, but hell...YOU try keeping a coherent story after 16 hours of drawing and trying to keep yourself sane!

Click the "24 hour Comic!" Link

http://www.pirateclub.com/comics.html

Today is 24 hour comic day...hoo boy! Me and Ryan Ottley (Invincible)are getting together in less than 2 hours to tackle this monster. Hopefully I/we come up with something good cause I just dont feel like spending 24 hours working on a piece of utter shit. I didn't think I'd get nervous, but the pressure of concieving, writing and drawing a 24 pp comic in 24 hours is weighing on me heavily. I'll post what I come up with I'm sure. Even if it comes out crappy, at least it's 24 hours spent with my friends...which will prolly end with us passing out afterwards watching zombie movies and our wives putting shaving cream in our hands and drawing on our faces with Sharpies. Good times.

APE 2005

Holy crap, this is gonna be a long one, folks...I think.

APE started early for me this year because I was road trippin it to San Francisco from Utah. Now, normally this wouldn't be a big deal, because my lovely wife, Rachel would go with me. This time...no dice, she had to work. Bummer. Enter: The illustriously debonaire Shane Hillman. He flew up from TX and we road tripped it out together so we could plan out the super secret project we've been working on, it will rule ass.

DAY 1
We drove from SLC to SF and kept ourselves occupied along the way by watching tumbleweed, talking comics and music, and making pupet shows out of coffee cups. Yes, even I, the driver, endangered both our lives by joining in(the roads in NV are very straight and LONG). It was a long drive only interrupted by a brief stop in Reno, to eat food and see billboards of all the Las Vegas reject showgirls that have moved to this little shit-hole of a city(no offence to you Reno-ians). We soon made it to the SLG offices and were greeted warmly with shots of Vodka and laughter from the esteemed office crew. Shane fit right in, we'll get into more of that later. After saying hello and whatnot, we headed to Dan Vados house for Pizza and video games. Well, mostly I just had Pizza and showed Dan's sons how to use their home studio recording equipment, since I am so awesome. Shane and I were tired so we bailed to our SF HQ, Bryan Dobrow's apt. He is one of my many editors and SLG stock room monkey. We got there and I quickly passed out while Shane, Bryan and friends partied out. I only woke up once to make some witty comment before passing out again. Good times.

DAY 2
We woke up bright and early to get to work packing up the offices for the con, but not before stopping by Jack in the Box to get some "breakfast". I never eat fast food, and this trip was torture for me because of the abundance of it. We made it to SLG and had some waffles made by Deb before packing up. Shane and I did a little packing, but mostly just thoroughly enjoyed hearing Dan talk story about the industry, and show us art that was lying around the offices. Dan was "offended" numerous times as Shane kept mentioning how young he was and how long SLG had been around. Sigh...we love Shane. Later that night we made it to a bar in Los Gatos to see Chris Haskett show us how awesome he is on the skins. Great show, and Joe Nakamura made a slam dunk into my beer with a napkin from 20 feet away. Bravo! After that, was a rage fueled journey through the streets of Sna Francisco to find Shanes friends who were staying in a hotel "a block from the con". After 2 hours of searching we left, on the way home, we saw their hotel...a good 15-20 miles south of the con. These big cities sure do have big blocks.

DAY 3
The con, day 1. I never remember much from cons, to be honest. It is just a blur of people and comics...and I usually lose my voice. But after setting up the booth that morning, I got into "salesman mode" and had moderate success selling my wares. Those Pirate Club memberships sell like hotcakes. The t-shirts, not so much, next time, I go with black ones. I think I had lunch with Teben, Py, Shane, Becky and Rey this day...I don't remember. But I do remember going to Teben and Py's hotel after the con, drawing, eating IHOP, then me falling asleep and farting. I was asleep, that's my excuse. They rated it at a level 6, I didn't inquire as to what the basis was on that rating.

DAY 4
The con was slow, so I went around and talked with some friends at other booths, and got some goodies from Dan James, Debbie Huey, and Flight. I also got some other things I forget... Oh yeah, Me, Shane, and Bryan quoted house of Cosby's all weekend, I guess Jhonen was in on the joke as well, but I didn't make it to that side of the booth too often. That night, we rented From Dusk til Dawn, got crappy Chinese and went to bed. Fun stuff, eh?

DAY 5
I was getting as tired of the trip as I am in writing this blog, so Shane and I left a day earlier than planned and booked it home. It was a long trip of little consequence, but Shane and I did stop to play in the snow and eat at a Mexican place in Winnemucca. The way home was a battle to stay awake and maintain conversation. I was too tired to talk and drive at the same time at this point. Luckily when we got home, Rachel had an awesome healthy mean waiting for us of Steak, Ptatoes and steamed Veggies! After this trip, it will take another year to get all the fast food poisons out of my body!

Post Script.
Shane, my friends, and I made a new Pirate Club video...not sure how this one will turn out when edited, but I will say this: Next time, we script and storyboard these things. Rachel and Shane and I saw Sin City and it was awesome. Also, me and Rachel miss Shane, hopefully he comes back this winter.

Long Day...long week.

So for the last three days, before I allowed myself to go any further on the art of issue 8 on Pirate Club, I forced myself to sit down and write/reright the rest of the series. I think I just realized how much more I like drawing than I do writing. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy the writing process, but after 3 days straight of ONLY writing, it makes ya go a bit crazy. But at any rate, I finished scripting issue 10 about an hour ago, reread through 8,9, and 10 and am quite pleased with how it all turns out. I will say this though, I wish I had scripted the WHOLE thing first. That way I could always edit as I go, but all the points would have been plotted and scripted more smoothly. There's always next time. Speaking of which...I am 39 pages into my next comic project, a child friendly space epic. Should be fun.

Sunday was Rachels 21 birthday and we all went up to the Red Iguana to feast on some Mole dishes and have some shots. Then off to Burts Tiki Lounge where we enjoyed more shots and $1 Pabst cans while listening to Utah's finest Rockabilly act: Sweatin Willy and the Utah County Swillers. Great stuff. Sweatin Willy being Elias' old High School english teacher, and a mutual friend, sang happy birthday to Rachel and made fun of us for smoking Prime Times. It was a great time had by all!

Also, what else...oh yeah, I just found a box of my old drawings. And I don't mean, like, 3 years old, I'm talkin about drawings that I did in elementary school. Lots of drawings of the Ninja Turtles, Star Wars and Edward Scissorhands. Rachel and I were putting some wedding presents into my parents attic and I found a bunch of boxes I had forgoten about. Even a bunch of old comics I had drawn in Junior High and High School. The Junior High ones are the most humorous, those being the big Image Comics days an all. Ahhh memories.

Snowfallen day.

Hey, there's snow outside again this morning! We haven't seen wet weather like this since I moved here. Normally I hate the snow, but Rachel's been kinda sick so we haven't had to go out in it. I get to enjoy it from indoors, which is how I like to enjoy snow. This way I don't have to see how gross and mucky it looks all over the roads. So anyways, I'm back in school. Why? Mostly because ever since I was a kid I was afraid of having art as a career; but being back in school only reminds me of those days even more, as I hated(hate) school so much. Basically, the reason I chose to go back to school now is because my old High School art teacher asked me if I wanted to perhaps take over his class when he retires in 5 years. That's a pretty good deal right there; I've always wanted to move back to the Bay Area and San Ramon is a real nice place as far as I'm concerned. So...back to school. Whether I end up teaching or not, who cares; at least I have a degree.
Let's see...the Holidays. The holidays were good, my family isn't too big on celebrations, but since ,y parents moved back to Sweden on the 27th, we decided to make a go of it. Christmas was nice, it was just my Partents, Rachel and I in the morning and then everyone came over later to see my parents off. Normaly I hate big crowds (6 older sisters and 19 Nieces and Nephews) But it was fun. Plus I knew they'd all be gone soon and Rachel and I would have my parent's house to ourselves 'til they move back to the states ;) Rachel got me a bunch of cool christmas presents that started me on my first ever collecting craze: Star Wars Galactic Heroes. They're those little Playskool guys that are so damned cute I have to have em all. I've just about polished off my collection too, phew. I also had a pretty good New Years party and Elias and Michelle took me to Bombay House for my 25th birthday. Rachel's "arch-nemesis" was seated at the table next to us but we didn't see her til we got up to leave...not that it matters.
--just got off the phone with my Dad in Sweden, it seems one of his buddies there publishes Childrens books and wants me to do some books for him...3 in fact...sweet.--
Now onto my Pirate Club nonsense. Issue 8 is underway and issue 9 and 10 scripts are killing me. Issue 10 is the finale of this arc, so I gotta make it shine. You'll all love it. Also, it should be known that the orders page on my site has been updated http://www.pirateclub.com/order.html I have T-Shirts that I am making this weekend all ready for ordering, so get er pocketbooks out cause this is what's gonna get me to APE and SDCC this year. Also, I am working on a story for Ryan Ottley's Ted Noodleman Bicycle delivery boy TPB, I'll shoot a link off for that when I get one. See ya's.

Derek

New Pirate CLub...Halloween...Adulthood.

Well, issue 4 hits the stands this week, craziness. I am happy to be finally putting out books that I have drawn in the last year! Issue 4 looks a lot better than the previous 3, and probably reads a lot better too. I'm always getting feedback on the books from my friends, and issue 4 sorta starts the whole, "hey, I'm listening to your suggestions" phase of my "career" Heres the info on the book. I hope people who like it pester their stores to order some copies for the shelves, hear me? ;)

http://www.pirateclub.com/pclub_cover4.jpg
Even after the whirlwind of unbelievable events in issue 3, the Pirate Club doesn't waste any time to collect their thoughts before running off to meet up with the dirty faced kids club. On the way, booby traps, rogue clubs, and an angry officer push the Pirate Club to their limits!

So anyways, Halloween was a lot less eventful than years past, I barely dressed up and ended up watching movies with Ryan Ottley and his wife. Granted, it was fun, but I felt a twinge of contempt for my "responsible adulthood". Man, that shit sneaks up on you...acting "adult". I mean, I still yell at assholes and am confrontational to the dicks at Rachels coffee shop who try and but into private conversations...I just don't have a burning desire to party anymore, it's weird. But anyways, I saw the original Night of the Living Dead for the first time...yeah, FIRST TIME! It was a great flick, I knew it would be, but it was better than I thought. Then we watched the ring, and I realized how big of a sissy I am when it comes to watching "actual" scarry movies.
I guess I shouldn't fail to mention that Bill Morrison came to SLC and I did a signing with him...for being a guy that has writen and drawn Simpsons comics,TV stuff, and so on...the dude is quiet, and well behaved! I had a good time, and he is really cool. We saw a lot of cute kids dressed up as Super Heroes and one super hot girl dressed as Cleopatra(ie Rachel).

What else...? Oh yeah, it is Nov and our wedding is in 3 weeks. We are getting nervous, and a lot of that has to do with the fact that our announcements are a month late and the caterer fell through. Listen everyone...if you can't do something, put your balls on the chopping bloc and tell whoever you are involved with that you are too big a sissy to follow through with your agreement. Sigh...I gotta go to a meeting.

Holy Crap! I'm getting married in 5 weeks. What is this insanity? I dunno...but I don't think I am as nervous as I should be. Maybe it is cause Rachel is pretty awesome(awwww). So anyways, most of the plans are done, and the announcement is pretty kickass if I do say so myself. http://www.pirateclub.com/announcement.jpg
Rachel drew the left, I drew the right. Since the wedding is coming up and I will be taking a week off for the honeymoon, I am doing tons of drawing so I can relax on the honeymoon. Sounds retarded, but I am kind of a workaholic, so the more work I do now, the more capable I'll be to actually be lazy for a week.
I managed to get half of issue 6 done in the last week and a half, and wrote the better part of issue 7...but I am a bit lost as to how I will end the series. I know HOW it will end, but I don't quite know how it will be executed yet...make sence? Boy I hope no one reads this and gets scared. hehehe. SO yeah, I hope to get well into issue 7 by the wedding, and start on a pitch for a new series I thought up while at MoCCA.
Shaun of the Dead. Go see it, please. I had so much fun at that movie, the humor was so spot on, I was cracking grins and laughing the whole time. I love the british, not IN love, but love. I am in love with Wes Anderson.

Things are comfy

I am hating my job less and less, and stress levels are at an alltime low. Why? I dunno, but praise the lord...shit. I am at work right now, and it is 5:06. I have been doing character designs all day, and it is a refreshing change from doing the professional workplace equivalent of math worksheets in jr. high. The last week I have been spending my spare time working on an illustration mailer so I can get some freelance work, since a raise still seems out of the question. I really hope it doesn't prove to be a waste of my time, but we'll see. I have been getting some very good feedback. here it is, btw... http://www.pirateclub.com/postcard.jpg So, yeah...things are cool.
I am back in school, and I think this is why I am less stressed. I seriously think there isn't a thing that stresses me out more than the looming threat of unemployment, so I am working towards a teaching degree so I can teach HS art in case every art director in the comercial world feels that I suck. Which could happen, I suppose, but really...I am optimistic. Really. Does all this extra work mean that I have put Pirate Club on hold? Yes, yes it does. Man, When Issue 1 came out I had a 3 issue lead, now it is down to 2. But fear not, I am working slowly on issue 6, slowly because it will rock your ass, and I want it to be perfect. Issue 5 was NEAR perfect, issue 6 will be perfect. What else...? Oh yeah, my buddy shane hillman keeps showing me kick-ass stuff from his OGN he is working on and it always inspires me to do more stuff, so I have 3 projects I am toying around with and getting feedback from shane and bryan. Creating comics is fun folks. See ya.

Hopeful beyond reason...

My hard drive crashed. It is dead...I think. I will be recieving my new harddrive in the mail today and if I can hook my old drive up to my new one, perhaps I can transfer some data. If not...I will be so...SO screwed. You see, I am in the habit of backing up data only AFTER finishing a project. So...although it is fortunate that Issues 1,2, and 3 of Pirate Club are on disk, Issues 4 and 5 were not. Fuck me. So right now I am crossing my fingers...hoping that the old hrd drive still has some salvagable shit in there. Preferably issue 4, cause I wanted to send that out last week. Tomorrow, I buy an external hardrive...and more cdr's. Wish me luck.

The Village is boring...

...and I even liked Unbreakable. Horribly boring movie, that is all the attention it deserves, time to move on. OK, so yesterday was a pretty awesome day barring the movie experience. I was gonna ride my scooter around, seeing as how I detailed it on Saturday, but it was too windy and gross. In a desert, windy is bad whilst scooter riding. So Rachel and I decided to go up in one of the canyons for a walk. We walked up to Bridal Veil Falls and watched all of the cute BYU students holding hands while they contemplate eternity together. Whatever. So, hiking up in the mountains rules. We were gonna hit up Night Flight for some comics, but we decided that a trip to Salt Lake City would be worthless since most of our good comics come out next week. So now I have to wait until next sunday to read the complete BONE, and Walking Dead #9.
In other news, I am a chump. The management at my work are souless retards who feel that giving a raise every 4 years is an acceptable practice and employees have been dropping like flies. So today we get $100 gift cards to Target...don't get me wrong, this is nice, and I appreciate it. But in reality, what is $100 compared to 3 years without a raise? Hmmm? Right...so anyways, I have been duped. And the worst part is, I know I have been had by the management. Whatever, today I go off to get some new games, and Rachel wants some new Spider-Man toys.
Comics...I am still redoing a large portion of Issue 5 of Pirate Club because it sucked before. I am glad I am redoing it because this new stuff rulex00rs. I think the reader will know which pages I redid, because the art style is kinda different...oh well. I have finally finished my "super-hero" comic story outline, and it is gonna be a sweet "epic" now. Yeah, before it was gonna be like, 6 issues...not anymore. I need more fights and aliens, so I guess that'll add a few more issue or 10, we will see.
This shit is boring. I will be more entertaining next time. Don't see the Village.
